    Jan 22,  · An Overview of Arson Investigation. Arson Investigations involve the study of fire-damaged physical evidence and crime scenes to detect arson, which is the crime of setting a fire for an unlawful or improper purpose. The techniques involved in arson investigations require a basic understanding of the chemistry of explosives. The CVFI course is offered every other year as a four-day, hour, NAFI-sponsored training program. Administered by the National Certification Board, the program is intended to increase the professional knowledge and improve the analytical skills of those persons who engage in the investigation and analysis of fires and explosions in motor vehicles and/or participate in the civil and criminal.
